13 Songs A Day - Issue #005

In the midst of the Blizzard Of 2009, here comes the latest edition of 13 songs...

While home bound in the storm, many songs have ran through my head. Will my Fleetwood Mac trend continue, or will there be more new additions to the list?

To quote MC Hammer, LET'S GET IT STARTED!

#13...Getting things started is a one hit wonder from back in 1993. This female R&B duo had a nice hit in the midst of the great hip hop/R&B explosion of the mid 90s. They really only had the one hit, but it was, as they said back in the day, "the Jam". This is Sweet N Lo with "40 Dog"

#12...A classic from 1990 is up next. New Edition frontman Ralph Tresvant hit it big with his first solo album. With several chart singles and his trademark high voice, that album is a must have for those of my age. This song was fantastic then, and it still sounds great now. This is "Sensitivity"

#11...Also from 1990, the only hit song to come from the all time great TV Show, The Simpsons. This is Bart Simpson, with "Do the Bartman"

#10...The top 10 begins with a forgotten song from a forgotten album. Paul Shaffer has been a successful songwriter for decades, and has been David Letterman's sidekick since 1982. But in 1989, he released an album that featured this single. The single features an array of diverse musical talent, from Will Smith to Dion. This was a minor hit 20 years ago, but it deserves a second listen today. Here is "When the radio is on"

#9...Another new entry to the list right here. This was the 2nd big hit for Dan Hartman during the summer of 1984. He hit #1 with "I can dream about you? then had another solid hit with this follow up...this is "Second nature"

#8...Returning to the list is Hall & Oates...the Philly duo is one of my faves. Here yet again is 1984's "Possession obsession"

#7...Reaching the halfway mark, we come upon Oakland rappers Luniz and the 1995 ode to their favorite pasttime. This is "I got 5 on it"

#6...The Christmas song for this list is by David Bowie and Bing Crosby...they united for their own rendition of "Little drummer boy"

#5...Cracking the top five is the #1 song from the last chart. This is Fleetwood Mac with "Seven wonders"

#4...Entering the list is Eddie Money with his 1986 smash "I wanna go back".

#3...The top 3 is up next, and it is classic rock band Cream...yes Cream. This is "Sunshine of your love"

#2...In the runner-up slot is Rockford,Illinois' favorite sons....Cheap Trick! This is their cult classic, "Surrender".

#1....and at the top of the heap...This is the biggest hit from the band Poco, who was formed from the ashes of Buffalo Springfield back in 1968. In 1988, they hit #1 with this catchy little ditty, this is "Call it love"
