13 Songs A Day - Issue #002

Okay, day two...after a long day of sports, time for some good music to make the day complete. Again, no real "rules" for this list, just 13 songs that come to mind for various reasons.

Starting off today, it is singer/songwriter Richard Marx and the 2nd of his 4 top ten singles off his 1987 debut album. This ballad still stands the test of time.....it is "Should've known better"

The top song on the first list, Big Country drops down to #12 today...."In a big country"

The top ten begins with an all-time great band. Boston only released a few albums, but they are all excellent. This is from their 3rd album, titled 3rd Stage, this is "We're ready" and it sounds as good today as it did 20+ years ago.

Next, it is a #1 smash from 1966. Question mark and the mysterians had but one hit, but man is it a classic! This is "96 Tears"

In 1985, Paul Hardcastle used a voiceover from an ABC News special about the Vietnam War and a dance beat to create one of the most unique top ten hits in history. This is "19"...at #8

At the halfway mark, this is the debut single from Richmond, Virginia's most famous rapper. Mad Skillz(now known only as Skillz) released "The nod factor" in 1996...I do enjoy the sights of Richmond in the video. Underrated song and artist, in my humble opinion.

In 1988, some people in Hollywood had a good idea....make a sequel to the 1980 classic film "Caddyshack"....but they ruined that idea by not having Ted Knight, Bill Murray or Rodney Dangerfield in the sequel. One thing they got right was bringing back 80s soundtrack king Kenny Loggins to make the signature song for the flick. The song "Nobody's fool" is far better than the film:

I'm still digging Joe Jackson from yesterday's list. #13 yesterday, it is #5 today..."You can't get what you want (til you know what you want)"

Continuing a theme of at least one holiday song per list, today I included Run DMC's 1987 classic "Christmas in Hollis"...enjoy (R.I.P. Jam Master Jay)

Da da dada da da dada, da da dada da da dada....the repetitive chant of this 1990 dance jam. British djs DNA remixed an older Suzanne Vega song and added a booming bass beat, looped her hypnotic vocals and made this perfect song. Warning: this song WILL get stuck in your head!

In the runner-up spot, a 3rd returning song from the first list. Yesterday it was #5, today Kix "Cold shower" climbs up to #2....again, they are in concert next Friday in Sayreville,NJ at Starland Ballroom!

And now, topping todays' list...one of the greatest duos ever and another of my all-time favorite music groups. This Philly twosome has had dozens of hits...and this is my favorite. Noteworthy for being one of few songs that John Oates sang lead vocals for, 1985's "Possession Obsession" is just a cool, cool song in my book. This is #1....Hall & Oates
