13 Songs A Day...Issue #008

From the depths of about 2 feet of snow....the latest List of 13:

(Highest List Ranking) [# of days on List]

#13 (NR)[--] "Still of the night" WHITESNAKE
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8UyWHdXb_CY
Another of the many great songs on Whitesnakes' 1987 self-titled album. Gorgeous Tawny Kitaen in the videos didn't hurt, but this band was more than just good videos. The guitar work on this tune is fantastic.

#12 (NR)[--] "Into the fire" DOKKEN
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=G2pAjKViITM
Really getting back into Dokken lately....George Lynch's guitar work is magnificent...and at leats now the corny videos look goofy and nostalgic instead of just silly. This is among their best songs ever.

#11 (NR)[--] "Contagious Y&T
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oVnKhB3pt4A

Another new entry to the list, this 80s gem from longtime rockers Y&T was forgotten by me until I saw this vid on VH1Classic's Metal Mania recently. Great song, solid 80s vid.

#10 (NR)[--] "No one is to blame" HOWARD JONES
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Fiba80YVyM
The interesting lyrics in the seminal 80s song by the UK's Howard Jones really make it memorable, as does the simplistic pop music track.

#9 (NR)[--] "Jailbreak" THIN LIZZY
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X7RLyufcDHE
Can't believe Thin Lizzy hadn't made the list a single time yet....well, that drought is over.

#8 (NR)[--] "Brothers gonna work it out" PUBLIC ENEMY
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MlLvFUigPzE

Another group that had yet to make an appearance on the list. PE's "Brothers..." is a great tune from arguably their best work, 1990's "Fear Of A Black Planet".

#7 (NR)[--] "Fishnet" MORRIS DAY & THE TIME
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bHEaJaRT3Is
From 1988, The Time hits the list with a great funky jam from the album "Daydreaming".

#6 (2)[3rd] "Lunatic fringe" RED RIDER
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xp9852hq0W0
The 3rd appearance form the early 80s classic from Canada's Red Rider.

#5 (NR)[--] "Chief rocka" LORDS OF THE UNDERGROUND
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YFbLRZCExBk

Boom Shock a locka! Straight from Brick City, Newark, New Jersey LOTUG's biggets hit leaps onto the list at the 5th spot.

#4 (NR)[--] "Psycho dwarf" THE BEATNUTS
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gi_dM-kohR4
From NYC, these genius producers who also possess sick lyrical flow lit up the hip hop world in 1994 with this party anthem.

#3 (5)[2nd] "Don't dream it's over" CROWDED HOUSE
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oCqsG1t7RoU
Returning to the list for a 2nd time, Crwoded House makes it into the top 3.

#2 (NR)[--] "Whisky in the jar" METALLICA
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wsrvmNtWU4E
Metal Gods Metallica make the list with a cover tune.

#1 (NR)[--] "The price" TWISTED SISTER
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZLHdP4dkdkQ
NYCs legendary Twisted Sister hits the top of the list with....a ballad?
